Years ago, for Sony Corp, their internal spec was to make their audio/video equipment/systems comply with 8dB, or more margin.
Flat statement. All test results had to have 8 dB margin. Three closest were always identified. Surprisingly, not difficult to do if start on the 'right' foot.
