We have been requested to perform an impulse withstand voltage test according to 60947-5-2 section 7.2.3.1. 1kv voltage, source energy 0.5J, source impedance 500 ohms. Waveshape is the standard 1.2/50 surge waveform. Can I meet the test parameters using a normal 2 ohm surge generator with additional series resistance, or does it require a special generator? I looked at the referenced documents (60947-1 and 61180) and it appears that the waveform must be verified with the test object in place (and I assume the 500 ohm impedance present) so I doubt a standard 61000-4-5 combination wave generator would work. Is anyone else performing this test, and if so, what equipment are you using?
