Dear Experts, For one of our RFID product (13.56 MHz FCC Part 15 sub part C intentional radiating device) we look for modular approval. There is no separate enclosure for this product. There is only one PCBA with USB connector for the host connectivity. This PCBA will get assembled in the OEM customer equipment. The TCB with which we interacted interprets the below statement in the document "FCC-DA-00-1407.pdf" as "shield is mandatory around the PCBA". "1. The modular transmitter must have its own RF shielding. This is intended to ensure that the module does not have to rely upon the shielding provided by the device into which it is installed in order for all modular transmitter emissions to comply with Part 15 limits. It is also intended to prevent coupling between the RF circuitry of the module and any wires or circuits in the device into which the module is installed. Such coupling may result in noncompliant operation." The PCBA will get assembled into a big equipment and that OEM equipment will be certified. The PCBA is expected to meet part 15 requirements, why a shield is mandatory if compliance can be obtained even without a shielding. What does shielding here means? Our USB cable is a shielded cable. I request you to clarify this. Sincerely K.Balasubramanian Manager - Hardware Support. - This message is from the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society emc-pstc discussion list.
