Dear Expert,

This is Tim Huang from Harman international.

I have a question regarding EuP.

I have a wifi speaker, the end-user can playing music from their iphone/ipad
to the speaker with wifi connection.

The wifi module is always on once it connects with mains, the purpose of the
feature is the end-user can reactive or wake up the speaker via their iphone
or ipad.

My problem is if the wifi module is always on, the power consumption would
exceed 1.0W.

1> From 2010-1-7~2013-1-6, the product should has a off mode or standby mode
or low power consumption mode to meet power consumption less than 1.0W.

So if we define requirement as:

1. Short press power button, will bring device into ‘sleep’ mode, which
with Wi-Fi on, can support Airplay break-in, the power consumption big than
1.0W.

2. Long press power button, will bring device into ‘standby’ mode,
which off the Wi-Fi, the power consumption will less than 1.0W. (use this mode
to do EuP certification)

Is this behavior OK for EuP certification?

2> But if the end-user can power off the wifi mode by manual, it still cannot
meet 2013 EuP requirments- automatically enter into a low power consumption.

How can I fix the issue?

I’m thinking if I can view the mode(power off wifi) is a inappropriate for
the intended use? If it is inappropriate for intended use, probably the
product will exempt from 2013 EuP requirements.

Regards

Tim
