UL published a paper on HBSE/62368, see <www.uluniversity.us/Content/73/MediaLibrary/HBSEul_white_paper_TECHNICAL.pdf>
Extract from end paragraph: "In terms of the First Edition of IEC 62368-1, it is also important to acknowledge that even with its initial publication the work of IEC TC108 is not complete. With IEC 62368-1 being a brand new standard — and with its scope covering a very wide variety of technologies, constructions, and industry segments — additional work will be required to solve any lingering deficiencies discovered as it is being introduced and implemented. In fact, TC108 leadership has suggested that the First Edition of IEC 62368-1 is likely only to be used by a relatively small segment of the Industry and more widespread use of the standard not take place until its Second Edition, when many of the areas in need of further attention are addressed." This seems to enforce the assertions by Woodgate, and et al, that the attempted coverage is extraordinarily large and that the TC still has more of a monumental task ahead. Is the intent of other TCs that the concepts of hazard 'levels', e.g., ES1/ES2/ES3, and the associated mitigation be eventually used in the other major product safety series such as 60335-x and 60601-x ? - This message is from the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society emc-pstc discussion list.
