Hi Ian Assuming that you are mainly working from 30 MHz to 1 GHz the shielded tent material will give you reasonable performance, more than 30 dB. The big issue will be how you get cables in and out. The shielding effectiveness will easily fall to 20 dB or even 10 dB. Of course, any shielded room, however expensive, with a penetration panel that does not properly terminate cables passing through the bulkhead will not perform any better. The other big issue is the door which I assume will not have high performance because of inadequate bonding around the mating surface. This will also negatively impact on SE. A good mains filter well bonded to the shield will also be a requirement. You can wrap the shielding material around the shielded cables giving some attenuation of the surface currents. Internal reflections will be uncontrollable without absorber. Any tests carried out will have to be repeated outside. Good luck. Does anyone have experience of using a Faraday/rfi screening tent for EMC emission measurements from products 1.5m x 1m x 0.5m? In particular; how effective are they in reducing external ambient emissions and are internal reflections from the EUT a problem. How do cables enter & exit the tent. I would appreciate some comments as I am considering purchasing one for pre-compliance 3m radiated emission measurements. Ian McBurney.
