The assessors must live in the real world: I know that's difficult for the aliens who become assessors. (;-) CEN and CENELEC support dated references over undated; there are arguments on both sides but the clincher is that with a dated reference you know exactly what to do. With an undated reference, there is usually doubt: do I include Amendment 1 or not, since Amendment 2 rescinds Amendment 1 but is still in its transition period! So the assessors have to accept that older editions of standards have validity under some circumstances. Actually, today a colleague told me of an opposite case; he was taken to task by an assessor for not having the 1975 edition of a standard. It is called up (obviously in error) in a current safety standard, instead of the 2006 edition! -- OOO - Own Opinions Only. Try www.jmwa.demon.co.uk and www.isce.org.uk Things can always get better.
