Kim, IMO, in Canada the electrical portion of the machinery would need to meet the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Part 1, CSA C22.1 and whichever parts of Part 2 were applicable. This would probably include CSA C22.2 #14 for industrial control panels, but depending on the details of the equipment could include other Part 2 standards. The machinery safety aspects would be covered by CSA Z432-04 (R2009), and you could bring in ASME B20.1 for conveyors, but that would be optional. A Risk Assessment would be required under CSA Z432, but you can use any methodology that meets ISO 12100:2010.
Regarding the x-ray machine, it would need to meet CAN/CSA-C22.2 NO. 61010-1-04 (R2009) - Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use OR CAN/CSA-C22.2 NO. 61010-2-081-04(R09) - Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use - Part 2-081: Particular Requirements for Automatic and Semi-Automatic Laboratory Equipment for Analysis and Other Purposes (Adopted CEI/IEC 61010-2-081:2001, first edition, 2001-12, including Amendment 1:2003) depending on which scope fits the product most closely. If there will be less than 200 units per year exported to the Canadian market, I suggest you use an Accredited Inspection Body to conduct Field Evaluation of the product wither in Europe or at a receiving warehouse in Canada. The product must bear a recognized Canadian electrical safety mark. As for the USA, the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the UL versions of the 61010 standards would likely apply. Field Evaluation can be conducted by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). You can find inspection bodies that are accredited in both the US and Canada, and therefore have one inspection and label the product for both markets. -- Doug Nix Compliance InSight Consulting Inc.
