Caveat - my employer makes smps, but no longer makes 'brick' power supplies.
1. I have two "typical" setups for emissions tests, both attached directly to output connector pins or terminals. a. c/c load using bipolar with zener from ps to base and some bias resistors b. pure resistor load 2. "Out of the test field" may not be applicable if you use 10m chamber. 3. Emissions tests should be done with the p/s installed in end-use equipment. 4. stand-alone emissions tests on component smps have very little useful meaning. 5. I watched another vendor perform tests (bad on the lab for letting me) where the load resistors were in a metal box and the box was grounded. This is legit, but may not be representative of any typical usage. 6. Ask the mfr for copy of EMC report - pics will reveal test config. 7. CISPR16. What is the typical test setup for radiated EMC measurements of general purpose off the shelf switching power supply; is the resistor test load tightly coupled to the output terminals of the PSU or is it on a long wire and taken down the 80 cm of the table and out of the test field? Is there any standard requirement for this and are manufacturers willing to publish this information?
