FYI - Looks like the beginning of a project to potentially expand the number of
substances restricted by RoHS.

Subject: Consultation process within the review of the List of Restricted
Substances under Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2)

Dear Sir/Madam,

This mail gives information on the stakeholder consultation process within the
review of the "List of Restricted Substances" under Directive
2011/65/EU<http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:174:0088:0110:EN:PDF>
(RoHS 2). It is addressed to interested stakeholders.

RoHS 2, which was adopted in June 2011, stipulates rules for any amendments of
the list of restricted substances (Annex II). A first review of Annex II is
required by July 2014 and periodically thereafter on the Commission's
initiative or following the submission of a proposal by a Member State (Article
6).

End of November 2012 the European Commission launched a new study with the two
main objectives:

* to develop a methodology to identify and assess substances based on
the criteria in Recital 10 and Article 6(1) and 6(2) of RoHS 2 and

* to assess the substances addressed in Recital 10 of RoHS 2 with a
view to their future restriction.
Details about the study are provided at the project website:
http://ec.europa.eu/environment/waste/rohs_eee/review/index_en.htm

To fulfill the above listed objectives cooperation and consultation with
stakeholders will be organized. Contribution by stakeholders will be gathered
by public internet consultations and meetings among a selected group of
stakeholders.

The 1st stakeholder consultation has started now. It aims at supporting the
identification of hazardous substances used in EEE. In particular information
on the uses in electrical and electronic substances is requested:

Background material and the questionnaire are provided at the project web-site:
http://ec.europa.eu/environment/waste/rohs_eee/review/consultation_1_en.htm

Interested parties are invited to participate in the 1st stakeholder
consultation and to submit their comments by e-mail to
rohs2.ann...@umweltbundesamt.at<mailto:rohs2.ann...@umweltbundesamt.at>, the
latest on 10th of February 2013.

You are invited to forward this mail to other experts and interested parties.

Yours sincerely

Brigitte Karigl
