The customer should also consider that

he is not only to meet regulations, but a product with

this large amount of harmonic distortion might actually

interfere with other equipment using the zero crossing 

of the mains, such as solid state relays. These 

are common found in industrial applications such

this suggests.

 

The limits have been established based on real cases,

with a margin of course. Using the margin might

be costly in some cases.

We have a product which is failing to meet harmonic limits.  It is
professional equipment ( in that you can only buy it from them and you
need a team to install it ) and is essentially a fan with speed control.
Power consumption is from 400 watts up to 1200 watts depending on fan
speed.

 

The customer cannot install any active filtering and wants to use the
Clause 4 route by stating it does not need to comply because it is
professional equipment etc etc

 

My question to the group is, what do labs put in reports in this
situation ?  Fails EN61000-3-2 or meets by route of Clause 4 ? 

 

At minimum load it just passes, but any more than that it is a fail up
to 100% fan speed.

 

I accept people may not wish to post replies online, I would be grateful
for any input.
