Ken In one respect you are quite right, but you still really do have to understand the minds of the people you need to convince/"convert", and thus you need to understand and rationalise how you will present those primers to the audience that you hope will take it all in - and that means really understanding your likely audience, and then to pitch the presentations in terms that they will quickly absorb.
