Everyone

Our next EMC Chapter meeting will be held on 5 May 201 at the University of
York.

This is an opportunity to hear from universities about their latest research
work in electromagnetic compatibility related matters, to question and
comment on that work, and to hear of common problems that Industry faces in
meeting the essential requirements of the EMC Directive. A free interactive
day for all managers, engineers and academics involved in any aspect of EMC.

The all day event is free of charge for all, but please note the requirement
to register in advance.

Our new Section website is up and running now so you can read about it all
at
http://www.ieee-ukandireland.org/event/ieee-emc-chapter-technical-meeting-em
c-research-at-universities-in-the-uk-and-the-needs-of-industry/
(if the link breaks across the line, copy and paste into your web browser)

Or just scroll down this email for details.

Also a date for your diary: The following meeting will be at Brooklands
museum
http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/
on 6 July 2016. Details of the technical program to follow later. Another
free event, with museum entry included.

I hope to see you at one (or both!) of these events.

Best wishes

Brian Jones

Information on speakers
Martin Robinson
Martin Robinson studied at the Universities of Cambridge, Aberdeen and
Bristol, and worked at NPL and Bristol Royal Infirmary, before joining the
Electronics Department at the University of York in 1993.In the field of
EMC, his research interests include the design of shielded enclosures – he
devised a well-known equivalent-circuit model that is used to calculate the
shielding effectiveness of cabinets with apertures. Another interest is
adapting EMC technology for medical purposes, with applications including
measurement of total body water, and characterising human exposure to
microwave fields.

Dr John Dawson BSc DPhil CEng MIET MIEEE
John Started his career as an MOD apprentice in 1975 after which he gained
his degree in Electronics and DPhil in HF communications at the University
of York. Whilst undertaking his DPhil research he set up an industrial
electronics consultancy designing custom industrial process control
equipment, where he worked till his return to the University of York in
1988. Since returning to York he has worked in the applied electromagnetics
research group and as a consultant to York Electronics Centre, and York EMC
Services as well as contributing to CPD courses and teaching a range of
topics in electronics and EMC within the Department of Electronics to
undergraduate and masters students.
John has over 150 publications in the field of electromagnetic
compatibility, and is a regular speaker at EMC workshops and conferences. He
is an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on EMC and as member of the
technical programme committee for EMC Europe and APEMC conferences. His
research encompasses a wide range of EMC and related topics, including:
shielding, reverberation chambers, emissions and circuit interactions,
design for EMC, and computational electromagnetics. More details can be
found at: http://tinyurl.com/preview.php?num=JFDYRDProj
Prof. Dave Thomas.
Dave Thomas is a Professor of Electromagnetics Applications and Director of
The George Green Institute for Electromagnetics Research, The University of
Nottingham UK. His research interests are in electromagnetic compatibility,
electromagnetic simulation, power system transients and power system
protection with a particular interest in stochastic fields and uncertainty
in electromagnetics.

He is a member of CIGRE and convenor for Joint Working Group C4.31 “EMC
between communication circuits and power systems”. He is also Chair for the
IEEE EMC Technical committee T7 on Low Frequency EMC, Chair of COST Action
IC 1407 “Advanced Characterisation and Classification of Radiated Emissions
in Densely Integrated Technologies (ACCREDIT)” and a member of the EMC
Europe International Steering Committee.

Professor Alistair Duffy BEng(Hons), MEng, MBA, PhD, CEng, FIET, IEEE Fellow

Alistair Duffy is a Fellow of the IEEE and a past Distinguished Lecturer.
His interests are in numerical electromagnetics, measurements and the
cross-validation of both of these.  He is Professor of Electromagnetics at
De Montfort University, Leicester.

Nick Wainwright
Nick graduated from the University of Northumbria with a 2:1 honours degree
in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1988. His first job was working
for GEC in the telecoms industry where he was introduced to the subject of
electromagnetic compatibility; something he found both interesting and
enjoyable.
An opportunity to develop further arose and Nick joined York Electronics
Centre, the predecessor to York EMC Services (YES), in 1990. From junior
Test Engineer to Chief Executive, Nick has held most jobs in-between
developing a huge range of experience of all aspects of EMC, both
theoretical and practical. In 1994 he was awarded an MSc in EMC with
distinction from the University of Hull.
Nick has been a regular presenter on EMC related subjects for many years at
both industry and academic conferences as well as on YES's own training
courses.
Nick is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Engineering
and Technology (IET), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE) and the Institute of Directors (IoD).
