Subject: [PSES] Strain Relief Test (SEMI S2)

All,

Is anyone on the forum able to help with a concern about clause 22.7 Strain
Relief Test? It requires a calibrated weight of 156 Newtons (35 Lbs) be applied
without regard to the overall size of the equipment. For example, a small
instrument connected with cord and strain relief requires this test regardless
of the cord size and the entire instrument weighs less than the test weight.
At this size the test is very destructive. I cannot find a get of jail card
for this clause based on equipment size.

By comparison UL 60950-1 has a table where the of the test is 30, 60 or 100
newtons depending on the mass of the equipment. And it never exceeds 100 N.

Thanks, Doug
