Hello Amund,

EN 60950-1 is the European adoption of IEC 60950-1 adopted by CENELEC. When IEC
TC 108 issues amendments to IEC 60950-1, the amendments are numbered
sequentially starting at 1. When CENELEC adopts these amendments as EN 60950-1
amendments, they get the same numbering. However, CENELEC occasionally amends
standards based on European group differences that are not issued by IEC TC
108. When CENELEC issues amendments that are European only, the numbering
starts at 11. These may come out of sequence with the IEC issued amendments.

The second set of amended documents for EN 60950-1 2nd edition was a
European-only set of group differences. It was called "A11" to ensure that when
IEC 60950-1 A2 was issued, the European version would have the same numbering
of A2.

CENELEC will often attempt to have their proposals adopted into the
international standard. However, if IEC TC 108 does not adopt a CENELEC
proposal, and CENELEC feels that the proposal is still required, CENELEC will
adopt it as a European amendment. The audio limits for Personal Music Players
are one example which are A12. However, the limits of A12 did make it into EN
62368-1 to become part of the international standard.

All amendments to EN 60950-1 should be applied based on the dates in the
Official Journal of the European Union if you are declaring the presumption of
conformity based on the compliance with the standards.

Subject: [PSES] SV: [PSES] Amendments of EN standard

How is the amendment history for the CENELEC version of EN60950-1?

First, publication of A1, then A11 and then A12. At last A2 ...
But A11 is a 2009 version while A1 is one year later (2010). Does it mean that
A11 was issued before A1?

Today, all amendments listed in OJ (A1, A11, A12, A2) apply for CE marking.
Correct?

Cheers,
Amund

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your clarification. One question about the amendment from IEC.

EN 60950-1 2006
EN 60950-1 2006 A11 2009
EN 60950-1 2006 A1 2010
EN 60950-1 2006 A12 2011
EN 60950-1 2006 A2 2013

According to OJ, all A11, A1, A12 & A2 are the amendments to EN 60950-1.
Normally, CENELEC issuing amendments based on IEC is a routine process. How
can IEC amendments become CENELEC standard directly?

Thanks and regards,

Scott
