The stringency, and the enforcement procedures, vary in the different Member States. For example, in Britain, prosecution is a last resort, because it is very costly and the outcome may be uncertain. But the authorities can be VERY persuasive. Non-compliant products are confiscated, and the thought of a future involving a watch on every new product introduction easily convinces manufacturers and importers that co-operation is the best policy.
