Dear experts, I hope you can help me. It is always challenging for me whether is it the right way to mark power supplies for building in, without PE connection and with reinforced insulation between primary and secondary, with class II symbol. Some examples are also DIN rail power supplies.
Class II symbol on the product means, in my opinion, that everything I can touch is separated by double/reinforced insulation from hazardous voltages. For DIN rail power supply this is not the case since for example near supply terminals we do not have reinforced insulation to mains voltage or also near openings in enclosure we do not have reinforced insulation towards internal hazardous voltages. I have checked definition in IEC 62368-1 and I believe it does not allow class II symbol for such power supplies since it is excluding reliance upon installation conditions. class II equipment equipment in which protection against electric shock does not rely on basic insulation only, but in which a supplementary safeguard is provided, there being no provision for protective earthing or reliance upon installation conditions However if you check what market offers, you will see that majority of DIN rail power supplies without PE connection bear class II symbol. What is your view on this matter?
