Is your company actually importer of record? If not, it is really the importing company that has to figure this out / ensure if they are covered etc... (of course if they don't have experience you might want to guide them as a customer sat. issue)
If your company is not IoR also check the contract between them and your co. to make sure no one (or see whether anyone) has agreed to silliness such as "will comply with all regulations" etc...
