Hi Gert and the group, I am careful not to handle these resistors to keep from having my skin chemicals contaminate the surface of the resistors and possibly change their value. They are a lot of fun to play around with in the lab.
Many times it is dangerous to send your equipment out for calibration. I have lost count of the number of times it came back damaged in one way or another. So for my friends with resistance meters used in static compliance measurements of things like workstations, I tell them to buy a bunch of these resistors to calibrate their instruments and just send the resistors to the cal labs to be checked! In the 80-ties i have been involved in operational amplifiers for gas chromatographes, or actually parametric amplifiers as they were called at the time. We used resistors in this range. Note you cannot mount them on a Printed Circuit board, but need to apply teflon stand-ups, hat need to be washed ultrasonically before testing. I still have some (glass) samples about 5cm long. But I developed a method of measuring the current in the cable without cutting it, by measuring the magnitude of the residual magnetic field. It was taken seriously by a research scientist, but that didn't result in further progress, as far as I know. The reason I did this work is that hearing loops use audio-frequency magnetic fields in the microtesla range, so I know how to measure them. If anyone is interested in the idea, please send me an email. It doesn't work for DC, of course, without some trickery. To address dielectric effects, I have seen both cables and capacitors “recharge” themselves to some extent after being discharged. The time constant is long enough not to affect my experiments which usually only need it to be charged for a few seconds. You can get 100MOhm to 10 GOhm UxCell brand resistors from Amazon.
