I've had this running with EMC since 2003. See http://jelinux.pico-systems.com/PPMC.html
It uses the DAC7644E, very similar. It has 16 opto-isolated digital inputs, plus a 17th which is part of a complete hardware E-stop control. it has sockets for 8 solid state relays. The encoder board handles 4 axes, and can have a mix of differential and single-ended inputs, as needed. So, the set is 3 boards plus a motherboard that holds 8 boards of mixed types as needed. The motherboards are expandable, so you could run 16 or even more boards off one parallel port. Jon ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
