You don't need the whole of EMC for this. But if you plan to go cnc 
sometime in the future it might be a good idea to use EMC anyway.

- start by verifying that you have connected your encoders correctly to 
the hardware and to HAL. You should see the encoder count changing when 
looking at the corresponding signal with halmeter.

- when that works, connect the encoder count to EMC. The relevant HAL 
pin is axis.X.joint-pos-fb where X is the number of the axis (0-5)
