The problem with automatic update is that you have to have internet  
to the machine that your running EMC2 on.

My machine is out in the shop and I don't have access to the internet  
out there. So I either have to build from source, download a new  
LiveCD when available, or bring the machine into the house and hook  
it up to the internet, do the updates and then take it back out to  
the shop.
