Hi all, short intro first, questions are below. After making a part for my
motorcycle with a lathe, mill and a lot of filing I decided to check out
what software is available for cnc. EMC2 Seems to be okay, I can run the
ubuntu live-cd in parallels on my macbook. I have a hobbymat BFE65 milling
machine collecting dust for years. This milling maching would be nice to
convert to a cnc machine. But, after a lot of reading and taking apart the
mill I am not so sure anymore. This machine is nice but it will never be a
precision mill. It is possible to put a lot of money in it, but still, I
don't think it will be usefull for anything that needs precision.
Furthermore, the Z-axis is a horrible construction, so that would need
redesign and a rebuilt too. Still, it would be nice to have a 3-axis cnc
mill at home just to try some things out, learn some cnc'ing and make an
occasional, not so precise, part. But, I am much more interested in a
hexapod machine. That would be an eductional exercise and not really
usefull, but very nice to have and do some demo's with. Before investing
money in such a project I would like to find out how hard it will be to get
something like that working. Designing and machining of the parts will not
be a real problem. The only thing I don't know enough about is the software
part of the project. So, the questions:

As far as I know hexapod code is in EMC2, but does it (still) work? Back in
march there where some mails about it. Unfontunately there was no succes
story follow up.
Is there any way to test the hexapod code without building the real thing?
How is the machinecode handled? I couldn't find anything about a hexapod
postprocessor. Does EMC2 translate normal, 3, 4 or 5 axis code to something
the hexapod can work with?
