In addition to the things Sam mentioned, Alex brings an international flavor to emc development. He also really understands teamwork. While most of the developers simply try to make sure they're not stepping on anybody's toes, Alex will pop up and offer to do the tedious part of a project (be it a new feature or a bugfix), collaborating smoothly with everyone else no matter the timezone.
