You really really dont want to add PCI bus extentions...

Actually 2 5I20s _will_ sit side by side if the right 50 pin IDC 
connectors are used (AMP fits for example).

Even with AMP, there is very little space between the sharp pins on the back 
of one card and the cables, so it would generally be better to leave a one 
card gap (Perhaps some other PCI card) between cards.

Why would you use 4 cards in a system? There are probably better ways to 
accomplish what you are trying to do. If it is just more I/O, An IO expander 
would make more sense. For example the upcoming 7I64 has 24 OPTO isolated 
inputs and 24 isolated 4A MOSFET outputs. 5 7I64s can be driven from one 5I20 
I/O connector (SPI interface = 50 pin cable spilt 5 ways) Thats 240 I/O 
points!


Eventually we will have OOTB (OutOFTheBox) FPGA cards using cabled 
PCI-Express. These are likely too high end for motion control.
