Gentlemen,
    Update.
Clyde complained last week about the Dahlih shutting down
unexpectedly. The screen would shut off sometimes and wouldn't return.
The computer would shut down completely sometimes. All of this at
random times.
I tried to address the screen problem by disabling the screen
saver. This helped a little bit.
When I opened the control box I found the computer and the
computer power supply very warm. We had had no problems with this
prior to last week. Standing there was uncomfortably hot. The overhead
heater was blowing directly on the control pendant. Someone had turned
the thermostat up to 85 degrees. We turned the thermostat down and
diverted the air flow. Voila, no more problems.
The 'ONLY' problems we have had are computer hardware related. I
tried an indestructable keyboard. The keyboard didn't work very well.
We had issues with wireless network reliability. An upgrade from a
very cheap access point fixed the reliability issue. The heat problem
was easy to fix.
We post programs from our CAM systems and copy them to a 'Dahlih'
directory on our network. The Dahlih is connected to our network with
a wireless bridge. We copy programs to the machine from the 'Dahlih'
directory.
We have had zero issues with the EMC2 side of the machine.
This machine is used daily in a production shop.
Clyde prefers the keyboard over the touch screen.
Clyde prefers the keyboard over the control buttons on the pendant.
Assessment, EMC2 is ready for prime time. Very well done and very usable.
thanks
Stuart
