I am just starting to use emc2 to control an ornamental turning machine I am building. A chuck rotates around the z axis (at rev per minute speed) under stepper control and the x and y axes are used to move a table and cutter across and into the plane at the front of the chuck like a very very slow lathe.
In future for some tasks, I want to decouple the rotational movement from the table movement, make them independent. I want to be able to start the rotation and then move the cutter whilst the machine is rotating continuously. My elementary understanding of G code is that this is not achievable directly. I am just starting to look at HAL so am not aware of its possibilities. So is it possible to create a HAL driver to allow emc2 to control the z rotation independently from the x and y movement? I.E can emc2 run two threads concurrently? Is this a simple or a complex task? Any hints as to where to start (other than read the HAL manual which I am starting to do)? Has anyone else done such a thing or is there a better way of tacking this problem? I started out using emc as a standard mill would the lathe be a better approach? I would be grateful for answers to any of my questions Thanks Alan ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Emc-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
