Hello, all,

I know this is not an EMC problem, but I was wondering if anyone has run
into this.

I just installed the Ubuntu 8.04 / EMC2 CDROM iso file on a Dell
Optiplex with the Intel i810e
video chip set, (actually an 82810E) and ran into some problems. I have
a ViewSonic LCD running at 1280.1024 native, and Xorg detected that and
matched the screen resolution. I ran the latency-test, and those
numbers looked quite good. Then, I ran glxgears, and there were many
horizontal dark lines on the screen, and in a few seconds Xorg partially
crashed, and the only screen that still was readable was the one you get
via ctrl/alt/F1.
So, I shut down and rebooted. I then tried running EMC in sim mode, and
got the same large field of horizontal lines. It was like seeing the
screen through a venetian blind. It made the Axis window unreadable.

This particular system has space only for half-height PCI cards, so it
may be hard to use a plug-in video board.
Anybody seen this, or know what to do (other than contact the Ubuntu or
Xorg folks, with I will do). It seems to be related to Open-GL
functions, as so far, I've only seen it with glxgears and Axis.

Thanks,

Jon
