The 6.06 version (filename you mention further down) doesn't give you the 
kernel you said.
That one belongs to 8.04.
There is certainly some screwup that happened during the 
download/burning/installing.
Another thing I notice, is that you don't provide any actual error messages.
If you can boot the 8.04 kernel 2.6.24-16-rtai, then try opening a terminal 
(applications menu) and type 'emc' without the quotes.
Paste the exact message here.
