What you're asking for is the revamping of teleop mode that's already started. It will allow manual motion in world/axis space, including controlling the axes with the MPG. Currently you can only control joints with the MPG. Also there are no incremental jogs in the current teleop mode, which is a limitation of the existing design. I do not know how much work remains on the implementation but I think there is a sound design already thought out.
