Peter - yes it's the same Bill Volna - I don't know him well at all, but did meet him a couple years ago at a CNC conference. He eventually sold his lens to a guy in Canada who as of a couple years ago was almost done with this monster telescope. Unbeknownst to Bill, the bottom side of his lens had some damage and the new owner set about polishing out the imperfections.
