Please let me know if I have miscalculated in drawing up my plans. The SheevaPlug supports USB, i2c and serial so this is how I will interface to a stepper controller board. The SheevaPlug is advertised to cost $99 in onesies. http://www.marvell.com/products/embedded_processors/developer/kirkwood/sheevaplug.jsp It has a 1.2Ghz processor.
Since the ShivaPlug supports 1G Ethernet, I planned to send commands to it via ethernet. My next step is to select a suitable stepper controller board.
