Yes, it uses the display units.  For radius vs diameter mode, it uses
the active gcode (it can't go off of displayed units, because both
radius and diameter are always shown).

This is a nice idea.  I've implemented it in the development version,
and if it doesn't seem to cause any problems I'll also put it in 2.3.1.

For lathes touching off X, it also will show whether the value will be
treated as a radius or a diamter.

This is not such an easy addition as Touch Off, unfortunately.
