IMHO, lots of the reason for not changing is personal convenience. People think they know what a 400HP engine in a car is like, or what 312cu in V8 is. Most don't, but they think they do.
If it was really important to change, folks would. If it is just to keep some politician happy, ... lets just say, I don't think so. A thumb width is about an inch and about 2.54cm. A meter is about a yard, But in metric, how many ergs per newton? or gram calories to btu? yea, my head hurts too. ... still better than measuring mass in slugs. The great thing is that it doesn't matter to most folks most of the time. ><> ...
