Hi all,

This is probably more a linux issue than EMC, and I did find an alternate
means of doing it, but thought I would report it, in the event anyone else
runs into it. The problem occurs when trying to automatically start EMC
under xubuntu at auto-login. Using settings | auto start, I entered a
command of the form "emc path/to/ini/file.ini".

It basically works, in the sense that EMC comes up and appears to run the
correct configuration, except the I/O is not working, well inputs anyway.
Further, the inputs are coming up inverted. With the e-stop in, there should
be no power to the end of travel limits, door open sensor, etc (going
through the Mesa 7i37? SSR board). Thus the system should show the axes at
the end of travel limits and the door open, but it in fact shows the
reverse. However, something is still locking out the machine on, which I did
not bother to hunt down yet. If the emc command is executed through a
terminal session, everything works fine, specifically all of the I/O.

The driver I am using is the hostmot2 / hm_pci for the Mesa m5i20 board. It
has clearly loaded and properly interpreted the correct configuration as,
for instance, the is_output parameters are correctly set to true for those
GPIOs configured as outputs. Comparing the outputs of show pin or show param
are basically identical between the two, except for the owner number and of
course, in some instances the pin or parameter value.

I tried several other ways of auto-running on login, and found that putting
the "emc ..." command in the ".profile" script will launch it correctly with
functional I/O. So I am operational, just not through what would typically
be the easiest way to automatically launch emc at start-up / log in.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this strange behavior?

Thanks,
Eric
