So, if your machine is able to home to a repeatable position, then all work coordinate systems (G54, G55, etc.) will be relative to the same position on the machine. So, a fixture that is bolted to the table, the corner of the fixed vise jaw or whatever can be brought back. Without a repeatable home position, this is not of any value.
