Lowercase 'i' changes the increments one direction (smaller if you set it up normally). Uppercase 'I' changes them the other way. So you can hit 'i' to make them smaller, without worrying about wrapping around and suddenly getting big. When you actually want it bigger, just hold down the shift key.
