Aviation went through this about 10-15 years ago, with counterfeit bolts 
and other
fastener components.  Now, they require everything to be certified with 
lot tracking
numbers.  I needed some 100 degree flat-head screws a while ago, and had 
to buy
from an aerospace distributor.  4-40 x 1/4" screws were over $1 each, 
and I got
off lucky at that.
Of course, if this was actually destined for an airplane, those screws 
would have cost
me $12 apiece.
