I can't reproduce the keyboard problem you describe.

Here are the steps I followed:
 * start emc 2.4.2 (I used a run-in-place sim build on ubuntu 10.04)
 * in the config selector, choose sim/axis
 * using a standard USB HID keyboard, press the following sequence of
   keys: F1 F2
 * press and hold right-arrow
This sequence of keys brings the machine out of e-stop, turns the
machine on, and jogs towards +X.

If I misunderstood the problem you're trying to describe, please try
explaining it again.  A step by step explanation may help me understand
what you're trying to get at.
