If the connector is long, I put a scrap of metal on top for the press to bear down on and distribute the load.
When I bought this cheap-ass Chinese drill press, I assumed I would be using it to drill holes. Turns out it's not so good at that.. especially if you want the holes to be round. I'm glad I finally found something it's good at.
