I chose to look into gEDA because it has some HAL work done for it. http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?HalSchematicsUsingGschem After a couple of days playing with gEDA. I am able to draw schematics and started laying out boards. One key thing is that I can now make my own symbols without enormous grief. The snap tool doesn't always work well, but there should be a technique I can learn to deal with that. The symbols don't look as nice as Eagle's, but now that I can make my own I may be able to fix that. Changing symbols on the fly is a big plus, most every aspect can be changed, but this allows one to veer from standards at will. The user interface is old school Unix where there is a mix of applications that make up the whole. Invoking applications is best done with the command line. This allows for more work flow customization for some, is much less convenient for others. I like the more open source feel of gEDA. I haven't looked into Kicad, because it looks like gEDA will do what I need. -- Kirk Wallace http://www.wallacecompany.com/machine_shop/ http://www.wallacecompany.com/E45/index.html California, USA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn how Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) One Node allows customers to consolidate database storage, standardize their database environment, and, should the need arise, upgrade to a full multi-node Oracle RAC database without downtime or disruption http://p.sf.net/sfu/oracle-sfdevnl _______________________________________________ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
