Thanks for the tips!

As I wrote in my second email, the problem was solved pretty quickly -
I took out RAM, blew off the dust and put it in second RAM slot. Since
I did not have attached any beeper, there was no beeps, which usually
are made, when motherboard does not find some basic hardware, like RAM
etc. Beeps would have helped as a clue.

Anyway now it works.

With regards to SATA adapter, after that I noticed that there is also
third LED, which shows the "hdd activity"
