I gave the card to a friend who has a newerish desktop pc
He reports that it boots ok and lspci shows

It is as y'all suspected, my pc's are antiquated/faulty/incompatible
I recon I will keep the card for the day I get a new pc
I feel like the card is ok
My only newish pc right now is a laptop
