A few years ago when all PCs were large boxes and cost thousands of $
there might have been a real reason for smaller, cheaper CPUs.
Now, with the $79 Atom boards that are 7" square, it is possible to
have a complete CNC control the size of a paperback book.  So,
the real need to develop a smaller system seems to have been mostly
satisfied.
