I am also looking at mesa card for trying out EMC. The card I am looking at is,
5I25 + 7176 DAUGHTERCARD + CABLE PLUG-AND-GO KITS
It will be installed onto an old P4 IBM Intellistation 6229, 2Ghz, 1GB
ram, so I guess it's a 5125
Will it work? Will P4 be too slow? Just out of curiosity, where are
the cards made?

Speed is usually not the issue, latency is, so I would first verify that the
system has decent latency, a P4 is fine speed wise (even a fast P3 should be
OK)

i just build another computer and when i check new boards they mostly
manufactured with pcs express connectors - smaller type connectors.
So, regular 5i20 card will not work on new mather boards.
Will mesa electronics make new boars 5i20 that uses pci express
connectors or what?
is there a adapter convertor from pci to pci express etc

We have some PCIE cards (the new 6I25 for example, and cabled PCIE solutions:
6I71/3X20/7I68, 6i71/4I73/4I65 or 4I68 or 4I69) but for LinuxCNC the PCI cards
will have better performance (lower latency for single transfers) and lower
cost. Its not hard at all to find new motherboards with PCI slots (an informal
check of NewEggs 9 featured motherboards shows 7 with PCI slots and 2 without)
Chosing a motherboard with good latency is more of an issue for LinuxCNC than
finding one with PCI slots.
