Classicladder module will provide Modbus for serial port. I do not
know about other options for communication over serial port. AFAIK
there are several standards for serial port, so I think that
specifying more details would help.

You definitely can define Your M code commands (M100 to M199) and/or
remap existing commands to do Your own functions, so on this side
LinuxCNC is way more flexible - You can adjust it so that it takes the
generated code without additional adjustments.
