I subbed to the rtai list a week ago in hopes I might glean some info on
the current status of rtai.

A few terse messages went by this morning advising that it is working on
the 2.6.38.8 kernels now, with something called vulcano and their patch.

The 2.6.38.8 kernel, with the bfs 0.416 patch is a whole new experience in
interactivity for the user. How that would work with the rtai patches I
have no clue, other than to comment that on this quad core phenom,
2.6.32-122-rtai is a total disaster in terms of user interactivity. Kmail
freezes for up to a minute at a time, while htop shows no discernable cpu
load is my constant irritant. This kernel's scheduler only uses the other
3 cores when core 0 is tapped out too. gkrellm's display show this pretty
obviously. firefox suffers similarly, freezing up for 10-60+ seconds at a
time, while the traffic leds in the switch are showing 350k/sec of incoming
data.

FWIW, I do NOT see this on the atom boxes. Only on this quad core does it
become that obvious.

Just sayin...

Cheers, Gene
