I'm not sure what the issue is. There are plenty of sites that describe
how to (re)master a distribution. My approach would be "just do it."

The only problem I see is the lack of any serious criteria for inclusion
of packages. The new distribution image likely will grow to DVD
proportions as folks clamor for their favorite to be included.

An alternative approach is to harken back to the beginnings of personal
computing and issue CD collections of useful application packages that
can be used as a local repository. Granted, this approach presupposes
one sticks to some "standard" like the Advanced Packaging Tool (apt)
used in Debian and its derivatives but it has its advantages in that one
could mix and match applications.

I won't pretend that everyone has decent Internet access (especially
here in the "advanced" USA) but those who do likely would be just as
well served with a Website/Blog/Wiki page that highlights the best and
the brightest applications out there. This has the advantage over a hard
distribution of not having constantly to refresh package versions.

Am I missing something?

Regards,
Kent
