Hello! I want to make 3-axis router to touch off the material before milling. I am thinking of fixing touch probe to some pneumatic cylinder (or other actuator), fixed on Z axis near the spindle, so that it could move up or down (always to the same lower position). The machine should lift down the touch probe, make measurements, lift up the probe and start milling according to measurements. First, simple task would be to measure the height and then start milling from that reference.
I was looking for similar mechanical solution, but without success. How about LinuxCNC - will it be capable of doing such operations?
