I don't disagree, Jon, and running a very small network with just a few 
hosts helps too. My virulent reaction to the X security model stems from 
bad experiences on big networks (hundreds to thousands of hosts) at 
universities and national labs. Too often, frustrated users resorted to 
"xhost +"

It's hard to believe that X11 is more than 25 years old. I remember when 
it was the shiny new thing. I remember too the parade of technologies 
which were going to displace it. Each had their turn in the hype machine 
known as the technical press, but each disappeared beneath the waves as 
their corporate entities sank. I'm still waiting for Wayland to gain 
traction. It could still happen in my lifetime....maybe.
